[time is green]

by Cara Waterfall

where
the forest
meets   the sky
&    the sky
the forest
sinuous
as any root
or     the pine’s
virid    ribs
a serpentine  place
with  the leaves’
gloss   &
banter
embossed  bark
& glorious foliate
hear the
greenward
pulse      surging
through stem
& vine
time
as tenacious
as  any predator
laddering  up
its   branches
its hunger  evergreen
how it    papers
over   our days
blurring    us
toward
the infinite
toward
undulating   land
without
curfew
where heat
simmers   & water
climbs  invisible
what  seems
like  a void
inches
toward  radiance
until   it is
filled
vault    into
this bloom
knots
opening
like   clouds
where  luminous
entrails
convert  us
into  lichen
or     loam
or   light
