Guidelines and Submissions

Garden isn’t too picky when it comes to stories. We believe in cultivating a diverse environment of content, genres, forms, styles, and experiments. Send us your best work, whatever you wish to share with us and think would be a good fit for our journal, and we’ll consider it.

There are a few specifics. For length, we don’t accept any novel or even novella length manuscripts, as we don’t have the capacity or resources quite yet to provide the support a novel would deserve.

For poetry, you may submit up to five poems within one document. For fiction, please know that we are unlikely to consider length exceeding ten-thousand words.

Please try within reason to deliver us a document using a standard manuscript format.

We are more than happy to consider simultaneous submissions.

Payment, as specified on our home page, is $0.02 per word for fiction. For poetry, we pay a flat fee of $25 per poem. Fiction has a minimum payout of $25, too. We pay our contributors on the 11th of every month, and will usually post around that same time.

Along with financial support and digital publication, we promote your art on social media. Once a year, we compile the past years’ art into a special issue. Contributors receive two free copies. We intend to release a first winter issue in December, seen below.

We accept submissions through our Submittable page. The link is below. Our response time should be within one month, but if time extends beyond that, please feel free to query us at our contact email contact@gardenliteraryreview.com, or through Submittable’s messaging system.

Hopefully, we can grow with you. Garden would be honored to do so.
